Types of Skin Tightening

There are many different types of skin tightening therapies on the market and listed below are the most common and effective solutions for both men and women of any age. These options will deliver the best results; however, they do range in intensity, and some therapies may require more downtime than others.

Radiofrequency Skin Tightening Therapy uses radiofrequency energy to heat up the skin to help stimulate collagen production. There are many different varieties and combination technologies using Radiofrequency that can be used both non-invasively and surgically (i.e. BodyTite Liposuction). With radiofrequency, the goal is to create bulk heating within the skin to injure the collagen cells, so they reproduce and multiply. A standard Radiofrequency series requires multiple sessions in order to achieve optimal results. This is why combination technologies with radiofrequency is recommended in order to see visible results faster.

Microneedling Therapy uses precise micro-punctures to pierce the skin, causing a controlled trauma. This allows for optimal collagen stimulation and skin tightening. Microneedling Therapy can also be combined with other technologies, allowing for a complete three-dimensional ‘lift’. Microneedling allows for both an epidermal and dermal rejuvenation, which allows the skin to appear smoother and tighter from the inside out. Usually, a 2-day recovery period is all that is required with this treatment. However, some patients heal faster and or slower than other! Still with Microneedling, a series is typically required for maximum results and visible changes on the skin.

Ablative/non-ablative Laser Skin Tightening uses laser energy and heat to tackle both the superficial and deep layers of the skin. Laser Skin Tightening uses collimated peaks of heat that deliver energy and heat to the area treated, leaving the surrounded area untouched (for faster healing). This type of therapy does require approximately 3-5 days of downtime where the skin will be red, tender, and begin to flake, allowing the fresh new skin to appear underneath. Ablative/non-ablative Laser Skin Tightening is able to also improve minor hyperpigmentation concerns as well. This type of therapy is not meant for all photo types and therefore, a consultation is required to determine alternate solutions for darker skin tones.

Facial Filler & Botox for skin tightening are able to enhance the facial features by eliminating fine lines and moderate wrinkles. Dermal Filler is able to tighten sagging skin around the nasal labial folds, the jowls, marionette lines, temples, and can even help fill crepiness in the neck and hands. Meanwhile, Botox Therapy for skin tightening is able to freeze the over-exercised muscles causing lines and wrinkles to deepen on the forehead and around the eyes. This will only provide minor skin tightening issues, and therefore any excess or loose skin will require another treatment solution. Both of these skin tightening therapies can be done in conjunction with one another as well as with any other therapy option listed! It is a great skin enhancer and gives back the youthful plumpness the skin has lost over time.

Surgical Skin Tightening is the gold standard of skin tightening treatments. It is the most effective tool to tighten and remove loose, sagging, and excess skin from not only the face but the entire body. Whether you’re a patient who’s lost a ton of weight and needs to remove or tighten the excess skin, whether you’re a patient who has jowling and loose skin around the face, or a mother after childbirth wanting to makeover her look; Plastic Surgery is the only solution for you. Many patients are scared of plastic surgery due to anesthesia and recovery times, however those circumstances in comparison to the instantly gratifying results achieved is worth the wait! If proper post-care instructions are followed – the downtime can take anywhere between 2-4 weeks, where clients are back to work and their regular schedule after just 2 weeks. Consultations are necessary when inquiring about Surgical Skin Tightening procedures and consulting a board-certified Plastic Surgeon is essential for patient safety and efficacy.
